Biography

Jean-Sébastien Monzani

Jean-Sébastien Monzani is a Swiss and French self-taught artist born in 1975. He works as freelance photographer, graphic-designer, illustrator and video-artist (he has a PHD of Computer Graphics from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology).

Simplicity, elegance, a strong sense of composition and colour are key elements in his work. His artistic approach usually conveys a sense of story while leaving some mysterious elements to the viewers' interpretation. After more than 20 years exploring photography and video, Jean-Sébastien has shifted his interest to traditional painting in 2019. Inspired by his numerous travels to Japan, he aims with his poetic and simple images to bring a little happiness to his audience.

His artistic works have been featured and selected by numerous international artistic magazines and websites, such as Creative from TV channel ARTE or Souvenirs from Earth, as well as Vimeo.

Jean-Sébastien likes to cite Antoine de Saint-Exupéry: Perfection in design is not achieved when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing more to remove. His photos are sometimes influenced magic realism in literature (with authors such as Haruki Murakami).
